Think Progress reports that David Corn, of The Nation, asked Karl Rove why "he fed White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan" a pack of lies for the last two years about his involvment in leaking Valerie Plame's identity.
VIDEO: David Corn Confronts Rove On Lying About Plame Leak He should have asked if President Bush was in on these lies or did Rove lie to the President as well. From Think Progress:
This morning, Karl Rove gave a speech at the American Enterprise Institute. During the question and answer session, David Corn of the Nation Magazine asked him why he fed White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan misinformation about his involvement in leaking Valerie Plame's identity. (Rove told McClellan that he was "not involved.") Rove refused to answer.
David Corn Hold's Rove's Feet To The Fire Of Truth
Full transcript:
CORN: David Corn from "The Nation Magazine" on a different subject. Scott McClellan told the White House press corps, many who are here today, that he had spoken to you and you were not involved in the CIA leak. Can you explain why the American public, almost two and a half years later, hasn't been given an explanation and don't you think it deserves one for that misinformation because it does seem you were to some degree, though maybe disputed, involved in that leak?
ROVE: My attorney Mr. Luskin made a statement on April 26th. I refer to you that statement. I have nothing more to add to it. Nice try, though.
Conclusion
I realize that this is a minor detail compared to all the buzz about the possibility of impending indictments. But the idea that President Bush, Karl Rove, and Scott McClellan succeeded in stone-walling the press for so long, on what has been un-explained discrepancy in the White House's public statements. I hope this doesn't continue to get ignored. Regardless of the outcome of the trial next year, President Bush, Scott McClellan, and Karl Rove owe explanations to the American people. And the White House Press corp owes us an explanation as well.
Whatever, satisfaction we may all get to see the wheels of justice take on small step forward if Rove gets indicted this week, we should not allow ourselves to forget that their original strategy to stone-wall this "bump" in the road" until after the 2004 election, was wildly successful.
And so far, it appears, that President Bush has gotten away with it, and will continue to do so. Probably, beyond all of their wildest dreams. (Compared to the pre-2004 scandals they feared would cost them the last election.)
If President Bush, says to Karl during the resignation announcement,"You've done a heck of a job, TurdBlossem!" Not to mention a likely Presidential Medal of Freedom.
My concern, with what I hope will be an announcement this week of Karl Rove, is that some of these other questions will get lost or downplayed in the wash. To me, it appears that Karl Rove's continued presence in the White House, well after overwhelming evidence indicted that neither Rove nor Bush had come clean with the public, is problematic.
And at the very least, represents a blemish on the integrity of the Office of the President. Perhaps, minor by comparision to so many apparent out and out crimes, however, well below the threshhold for what should be considered acceptable. I am hoping we can influence the MSM to give more play to this angle of the story.
